Saturday lunch for a girl's day out. We knew we wanted athai cuisine and landed on Nicky's for our pick. We couldn't have asked for a better spot. Parking was easy in the Smithfield-Liberty garage. Price for our venture --$8.00. Easy walk to Nicky's. We had our choice of indoor or outdoor seating. I usually will opt for outdoors but it was a few degrees hotter and muggier than my threshold so indoors won. We were seated right away. Our server was delightful. Soooo many great options on the menu. We both chose the Thai iced tea (soo refreshing), spring rolls (I absolutely loved them and find non-fried rice paper rolls so tasty). I chose pineapple fried rice, my friend chose pineapple curry. We both reveled in our selections. Then we each had a salad that was fresh, crunchy, and perfect.
We really enjoy this place and the food. This is our go to thai stop when we are downtown. It's usually quite busy and there is inside and some outside seating. The tables are quite close together and they pack everyone in there. It's not uncomfortable, but just what you'll get for a smaller restaurant space downtown. As for the food, we have always left full and happy. The food seems hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The special Pad Thai/Pad Cha combo was so great, came with a hearty portion of pad thai, dumplings, and soup. Whatever the soup was it was something I never expected to like but the flavors were awesome. My husband always goes for Pad See Eaw and will continue to go back for more. The only thing is he ordered cashews with his meal and we got a tiny little cup of cashews, the waitress warned us it would be an upcharge which was totally fine...but $4 for a tiny little cup of them was a little ridiculous in my opinion. Service is friendly and fast every time too. Don't forget a thai iced tea too, so good!
Absolutely fantastic. From easiness of reservation to quick seating upon arrival. Great ambiance of the whole place. Quick professional service. All our dishes were excellent. Their spice flavor at #4 is great. Appetizers were flawless. Pineapple rice, red Curry, ginger chicken entrées were flavorful!
The food is delish here and they offer lunch specials. The service was quick and very pleasant. Parking for this location might be a bit challenging but overall a very cute place with outdoor seating options.
Cute Thai spot in downtown Pittsburgh! The Thai styled fried rice here is incredible. It's super garlicky & flavorful without being too greasy, and it's packed with a protein of your choice. I could probably eat the whole plate! Definitely a must get here. The pad see ew here was also delicious -- it's really hearty, noodles perfectly chewy, and I love the broccoli and egg mixed in. We got it with beef, which was a bit tough, but the flavor was good. We also got cashew chicken and kao soy with tofu. The kao soy was super flavorful and the tofu was really juicy -- the perfect vehicle for soaking up the curry. The cashew chicken was packed with veggies and looked quite spicy but was actually really nicely sweet. 4 dishes was more than enough for 5 people. The portions here are pretty big! The ambiance inside is so lively and the service is really attentive! We had our water refilled often. The decor is also really fun. We went on a Friday night as a group of 5 and were seated without too long of a wait. It's the perfect place for a big group dinner with friends or family.
The ambiance here was very much Thai. Lots of Thai decor and art, I was promptly seated and greeted. Service was overall excellent. Food quality here was very good too. The pumpkin curry hit all the right notes and the Thai hot was perfect on a cooler night. The custard rice pudding was a very good way to finish the meal! A little bit pricey but good food.
The first impression was incredible. I love the lights everywhere at night. We got there with a party for 12 around 7 pm. It was pretty full, but luckily, a party of 20 was about to leave. I was going to stick with water, but it tasted weird, so I got the mango juice, which was tasty. The Gaprow Lad Kao was incredible. I got it with ground pork and spice level 3, which wasn't too spicy at all for me. It had great flavor and was easily 3 meals! Service was quick, location a bit packed and loud, but overall great visit.
This is how you do Thai food! Nicky has set up a sweet restaurant here in the Burg. Restaurant is well setup, decorated and modern compared to a lot of kitschy Thai joints. Staff greeted me right off the bat and off to a high top. This is spot would be great for anything from lunch to date night as they have a menu for both. I ordered the fresh spring rolls and got 10 solid pieces filled with fried tofu, lemon grass, rice noodles, lettuce, carrots and topped off with a nice peanut sauce. Just a hint of mint really set these off. Ordered the Gaprow Lad Kao which is a very traditional Thai dish. It's my favorite and I have had it over an over at Thai joints from Bangkok to London and all parts in between. I say that because this is some of the Gaprow Lad Kao that I have ever had the portions were almost enough for two people even though I almost ate all of it. It was a beautiful dish consisting of minced pork, a garlic/ Thai basil sauce with Thai basil and red peppers throughout And just enough heat to make me come back for more. This was a 5/5 for this dish alone. My three things: 1) Staff is excellent my glass was full, orders complete and very attentive for anything I needed. 2) Food was excellent and I will return on my next lay over. 3) Location is clean and well dressed so don't be afraid to bring your special someone to checkout Nicky's food.
